Kerrie Edwards asked me today to come and talk to her beehive class about how I have joy in my life as a wife and mother and how I found joy in my youth.
I am grateful that she asked me to talk about this subject because I studied the scriptures and found scriptures pertaining to joy and how to have joy in our lives, I also reread President Monson's talk in General Conference October 2008, "Finding Joy in the Journey". I loved this talk, when that session was over I went into my kitchen and on a sticky note wrote, Have Joy in the Journey-Pres. Monson and stuck it on my magnet board above my phone so I see it all the time. Also, when I started this blog I knew exactly what I wanted for my title- JOY IN THE JOURNEY. Also, in preparing to talk to the beehives I looked through my photo albums. I have had a lot of fun and it's great to remember all of those fun times. I told the girls the moments in my life that have been filled with PURE JOY are when I married my true love in the temple for eternity and when each of my babies have been born. It is so important to enjoy everyday and find joy in every moment even in the hard times. Find joy in being with our husband and our children. Hold them and smell them and have tender moments with them.
I read a story in the book, 'Mother's Living a Life of Fulfillment GOD'S WAY'. In this story a mother was celebrating her birthday and in the past, birthday's were hard for her because she didn't want to get older until her friend past away and left her husband and small children. Now every birthday she doesn't mind getting older but is so grateful to be here with her husband and children. I just turned 30 this past August and it was hard for me but since I have heard President Monson's words and read this story from my book I'm grateful to be the age that I am and have had the experiences that I've had and have had so much joy and I think I just get wiser not necessarily older, I will never complain again about another birthday I'm just happy to be here. :)
President Monson said, "Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey, and share our love with friends and family. One day each of us will run out of tomorrows."
John 15:10-11 "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
2 Nephi 2:25
D&C 101:36
Alma 27:18
3 John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."

Hey Vanessa! First off, I'm sorry the kids were sick! It's no fun when that happens, but that's just how life is. I like your last entry. I remember hearing that talk and thinking it was really good, but I should get online and look for it. I think that with life as hectic as it can be, finding joy in the journey (and not in the destination 30 plus years from now) can be difficult. But I do believe that if we tell ourselves that tomorrow, or next year, or whatever will be better, then our lives will be full of tomorrows :) Anyhow, thanks for that post. Good start for my day :)
Take care!
What a great message Vanessa! I'm so glad to know you and be your friend. Roman and I really love you guys! I really try each day to enjoy my children and husband more than I have. I know moments are fleeting, and I usually complain about getting older when I know I have less time with my children. Thank for your thoughts!!
